Sounds ridiculous, doesn't it? But between airplanes, bus rides and sleeping in strange beds, your body doesn't stand a chance. Not to mention your diet. My latest trip to Scotland and Norway was absolutely beautiful. The cuisine, however, left something to be desired. I enjoy eating healthy foods, and it's easy to do so in the comfort of my own home. However, most of the places we visited served an abundance of potatoes, salmon and various types of meat. Not a fan. I just couldn't eat goat (especially after bottle feeding one) and reindeer was completely out of the question. As a result, I didn't have as much energy and just didn't feel like myself. Needless to say I was relieved to come home and get back to normal after being away for nearly three weeks.  Easier said than done.

 

So now I'm home and I actually have to start returning to normalcy. Now as much as I'd love to tell you I immediately did a five day pure juice cleanse, I didn't. The first week home I don't drink alcohol. At all. Not even a glass of wine. I stick to water, tea, juices and one cup of coffee in the morning. (The coffee is for the benefit of others as well. I promise.) 

 

Breakfast: After consuming large quantities of bread every morning, my body was ready for hot buttered toast the moment I woke up. Instead of giving in, I poured myself a Special K Vanilla protein shake into the blender with a handful of frozen strawberries. 

 

During the day: Even though I don't go all liquid, my favorite thing to incorporate into my diet my first week back is Suja juice. I drink a Twilight Protein or Noon Greens when I'm starting to crave something before or after lunch. As for lunch? Something satisfying but not heavy. Salad with a protein. 

 

Dinner: I keep it simple with something like chicken and vegetables. I give my body one day of rest before I start running again. I wouldn't get very far if I was juicing all day. 

 

Late night snacks:  As I crawl back down to the kitchen with the intense desire to grab a pint of Jeni's ice cream, I stop and reconsider my options.  So maybe I do take a spoonful (or two) right out of the container.  But then I get a hold of myself and begrudgingly return it to the safety of the back of the freezer.  I grab a couple of frozen mango slices and slink back to my room hoping I can live another day without that toast.
